The latest speaker project, Baroque Quartet. Below are snapshots of the build so far. More updates coming soon.
Starting with pen to paper, a conceptual drawing is sketched and transferred on to thin vinyl sheets.
Templates are cut out used to lay out patterns for forming cabinets and speaker parts.
Fabrication begins with weaving speaker cones in thin Zebrano wood strips. Metal frames are fabricated to fit the cones.
Durable air tight cabinets are built from the cone sizes outward.
Individual isolated tapered tubes are formed for each driver.
Each one uses maximum flue length inside the cabinet and is ported out through F-holes.
A scroll saw is used to cut multiple wood segments.
These segments are set in durable bonding composites and layered to form the cabinet shells.
After bonding composites cure, shaping and honing begin.
Voice coils are wound with a handy simple shop made winding tool.
Many sizes are spent for "trial and error" testing to adjust sound to fit cabinets and cones.
A drill press is used to shape and polish magnet housings.
Finished voice coils and polished magnet housings, ready for assembly.
Hand carved finals in teak. Legs, handles, and trim are set with mortice and tenons.
